St. Gregory’s Before and After School Program participated in a variety of earth day activities! Each group explored and engaged in a variety of nature based activities that allowed children to reflect on how we can protect our earth.

ELECT: 1.1, 1.3, 1.4, 2.6, 3.3, 4.3, 4.5
HDLH: Belonging, Well-Being, Engagement, & Expression

The children learned the different parts of a plant and their functions. They then had the opportunity to deconstruct a flower and look at each part closely under the microscope. Children made observations on the different patterns they see and even said the pollen looked like popcorn!

Some children even made earth day crafts and drew how they can help protect our earth! One child drew a picture of someone picking up some garbage.

The children also participated in a group planting activity! Each child took turns planting tomato and calendula seeds in a green house tray to observe as they grow. Throughout the activity, the staff and students discussed what plants need to grow and what we need to do to take care of them. Children even used their senses to feel and smell the soil and seeds!
