INFANT PROGRAM (Age 0 to 18 months)

Location: York Mills (All Year)

Educator-to-Child Ratio: 1 Educator to 3 Infants; 3 Educators to 10 Infants

At Little Prints, we provide a secure, loving and nurturing environment for infant children during one of their most important developmental stages. Our Play-based learning environment stimulates children’s development in all areas. Programming is done on a weekly basis using subjects that are customary and developmentally appropriate for infants based on the educators’ periodical observations. Routines are consistent and flexible to meet each child’s personal needs.

The Infant Program highly focuses on developing the child’s language skills through imitating and role modeling during communication between staff and children. Everyday, the children participate in sensory-perceptual activities using their five senses to explore a variety of auditory, visual, scented and tactile materials such as play-dough, sand, water, rice, cornmeal, flour, JELLO, pudding etc., to help develop fine-motor and hand-eye coordination skills. Various Creative Arts activities such as sticking, painting, scribbling and Performance Arts activities such as storytelling, music, dance and movements are also implemented to enhance children’s creative thinking and gross-motor skills development.

Our programming focuses on several areas of development including:

- Sensory Development
- Language Development
- Creative Expression
- Cognitive Development
- Fine Motor & Gross Motor
- Music and Movement Activities
- Special Interest Activities
- Social-Emotional Development
- Outdoor Activities

Parent-Educator communication is encouraged on a daily basis in providing feedback and information about the infant’s day at the daycare. Developmental Assessment is conducted periodically to share the progress of each child’s learning, achievements and behaviour. Documentation in various forms and media, such as portfolios, learning stories, visual learning boards, slideshows, newsletters or blogs are used as tools to share the children’s learning process.
